Study on ballistic performance of a spherical cylindrical ceramic armor structure

Abstract A new type of ceramic armor structure is designed by using spherical cylindrical splice plate as panel with metal steel frame applied, TC4 titanium alloy and 685 back respectively in this paper. Ballistic test was carried out firing 14.5mm penetrator projectile ballistic gun. Results show that: damage area smaller when the weight lighter aftereffect similar, performance better than that conventional composite structure, which has certain advantages anti-multiple capability; density same. Therefore, ceramics can reduce influence edge on making protective capacity whole tend to be consistent, improve resistance furtherly.
